Homeless Woman Sings Opera in the Los Angeles Subway

A Los Angeles police officer recorded a homeless woman singing opera on a subway platform in Los Angeles, California, Thursday, September 26. Viewers have reached out on social media to offer Emily Zamourka, 52, housing and support.

Zamourka grew up in Russia and moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to become a singer. For years, she sang and played the violin and taught piano lessons. In 2016, Zamourka struggled to pay the bills after suffering health issues and having her violin stolen.

The clip was posted on the Los Angeles Police Department social media account with the caption “4 million people call LA home. 4 million stories. 4 million voices… sometimes you just have to stop and listen to one, to hear something beautiful.” (LAPD)
